School – Award Overview

The North Yorkshire Healthy Schools award covers four key themes which you can chose to work on in any order. These are: Active Lives, Emotional Health & Wellbeing; Food in Schools and Personal, Social & Health Education (including Relationships, Sex and Health Education).

Once you have chosen your first theme to work on, download and use the action plan template which details each criteria and any further evidence required for each theme. The action plan needs to be completed as an electronic document and uploaded as evidence towards completing the theme criteria; once they have all been met.

For each theme there is an integrated pupil voice element and reference to the effective use of data from the Growing up in North Yorkshire survey (if your school took part).  Evidence of effective pupil engagement is a key component of the Healthy Schools award.

Complete the action plan for your chosen theme and then upload it, along with any additional requested evidence such as policy and planning documents, to gain an award:

  • Bronze level - complete the criteria for one theme, uploading one action plan with accompanying evidence.
  • Silver level - complete all criteria for two themes, uploading two action plans with accompanying evidence for each theme.  Also complete the Staff Wellbeing section.
  • Gold level - complete all criteria for four themes, uploading four action plans with accompanying evidence.  Also maintain Staff Wellbeing criteria.
