I-Travel York
The City of York Council’s I-Travel team helps schools promote safe, sustainable, and active travel. Through fun, educational programmes, resources, and events, we encourage walking, cycling, and public transport to reduce congestion and improve health. From bike training and travel planning to road safety workshops, i-Travel York supports schools in creating greener, healthier travel habits for pupils and families. Contact us on email: itravel@york.gov.ukto find out more.
Modeshift STARS
supports schools to create, deliver, and track the effectiveness of their Travel Plans.
Modeshift Travel Ambassadors
With support from a Modeshift coordinator and school staff, secondary pupils help lead positive change in how their school travels. They explore travel issues, develop campaigns around active travel and road safety, and help set up practical solutions such as park and stride, walking buses, or car sharing. Schools are supported to engage pupils, work towards Modeshift STARS Accreditation, and address local travel challenges.
Living Streets WOW Walk to School Challenge
is a fun, daily challenge where children record how they get to school using the interactive WOW Travel Tracker. If they travel sustainably (walk/wheel, cycle or scoot) once a week for a month, they get rewarded with a badge. Thanks to funding from Active Travel England, all primary schools in York can take part in WOW completely free.
